If you’ve worked extensively with editing programs to come up with your own videos and audios, then you should definitely have heard and/or tried Sony Vegas Pro. This professional video editor lets you work on all the aspects of video, audio, DVD, and broadcast production from within its interface. It can be a expensive alternative, though.
So, if you think that Vegas Pro is too pricey to afford it, you should know that there are some open sources alternatives with which you can achieve similar results. That’s why I’ve compiled a list of three video editing programs that will cost you absolutely nothing while they’ll offer you similar potency to Sony’s software.
Lightworks
One of the most potent free non-linear video editing programs, Lightworks offers you a complete set of tools to work on your videos and movies in the most professional style possible. Used by the cinematographic industry for over 20 years, Lightworks includes features such as real time effects, advanced multi-cam editing, stereoscopic support and real-time multi-track audio. If you are considering on a serious free alternative to Sony Vegas Pro, then this is the application you should be thinking.
VideoLAN Movie Creator is another great solution from the same developers that brought you the infamous VLC Media Player. VLMC is another non-linear editing tool with which you can assemble semi-professional videos and movies. It isn’t as potent as Lightworks but it surely has some nice features. Among these, you’ll find a very easy-to-use interface, a wizard to assist you in your creations and the typical effects and tools to get the results you’re looking for.
Although this might be the least potent video editor software of this list, Avidemux is an alternative that shouldn’t be overlooked. Its lack of complete features are compensated by its ease of use and its speedy performance. Besides, Avidemux will allow you to work on the most common task of video editing: cutting, filtering and encoding. It supports several file formats and it almost doesn’t take up resources from your computer.
These are only three free video editing programs you can use instead of Sony Vegas Pro. Although some might not provide you with exactly the same experience, they are worth having in your video editor software collection. Besides, they won’t cost you a dime!
