Historically, Apple was the “cute boy” in the computer world. However, other OS like Ubuntu and Google Chromium were improving their image by adapting to design trends. We cannot say that Microsoft did not try, but it remained in just that: a good attempt.
Today, 25 years after its start kick, Microsoft encouraged a radical makeover that, in my opinion, will be very well accepted by the audience.
It all started with the new Windows 8, which not only gave a 180 degree turn in its interface, but also in its logo:

Then it followed the new Outlook:

And the entire Office 2013 suite (which you can download for free, by the way):
As if this was not enough, the makeover also affects its Windows Essentials suite and the new logo of Microsoft was unveiled, with geometric shapes and a minimalist style (along with the design of Windows 8 logo).
