Nowadays PC users are becoming more skilled when using computers tools, so it’s no wonder that any of our friends, siblings or even children know how to make fantastic collages or movies like professional designers. Even though they (or we) can get the top of our computers with a whole suite of programs which make us wonder “Did I REALLY do it?” This is partially because there is more software available that let us obtain incredible results without previous knowledge, in few clicks.

This is why we believe 2011 has been a great year for the IT industry. We have compiled a list with the most downloaded programs in 2011:

#10 – Frostwire

When Ares and Limewire used to be the kings of downloads, Frostwire started to climb up to the pole position becoming the most popular P2P downloader this year. Frostwire is a relatively new program, open source, with which you can download any type of files like music, torrents, videos, executables, and so on.
  

#09 – Sony Vegas Pro:

Sony Vegas is undoubtedly one of the best video editors in history. This program allows “common” users to feel like pros, making any home recording in amazing pieces of art. It has many functions and is very easy to use. Even you have basic and intermediate audio edition capability.
  

#08 – Adobe Premiere Pro

Adobe Premiere is one of the best tools from Adobe. It offers you everything you need-to make your films really amazing. Adobe Premiere Pro includes support sequences in HD (high definition), intelligent image control and a great quantity of filters which take full advantage of each sequence you want to edit.
  

#07 – Adobe After Effects

AE is, for many of us, the most revolutionary visual tool from last year. With After Effects CS5 release, Adobe leaves no doubt about they are the best company worldwide for multimedia editing software (although the prices of its products sometimes are excessive).
  

#06 – VLC Media Player

Besides being one of the best freeware software of the year, VLC Media Player is an essential program for any Windows user seeking an alternative to the classic (and mediocre) Windows Media Player. Despite not having a nice interface, VLC is very lightweight and is compatible with any audio / video format file so you do not have to waste time installing plug-in or extensions.
  

#05 – iTunes

Many things happened in the Apple world this year: the death of Steve Jobs, the new iPhone 4s, a new generation of Macbooks, iPods and the launch of an innovative operating system for its devices (iOS 5). This last item forced Apple to perform many reforms and innovations in iTunes, Apple’s multimedia player, which was highly accepted by users around the world, positioning iTunes among the most downloaded programs in 2011.

Keeping on with media editors, Cool Edit Pro finds itself between the most downloaded programs 2011 from Toggle.com. Those people looking for music editing, mixing sounds and create stunning audio tracks with their favorite songs love Cool Edit Pro!
  

#03 – AVAST Free Antivirus

Among the programs chosen by users, it could not miss an antivirus. In this case Avast is the only security software that makes up to the top ten. The reason for the popularity of Avast is due to something very simple: it’s fast, lightweight, safe and free! Everything a user expects from an antivirus.
  

#02 – DAEMON Tools

A program you MUST have in your PC. DAEMON Tools is great software which lets you create up to four virtual units in the hard disk. These partitions are very useful when reading duplicates of back up structures (“images”) of CD and DVD.
  

#01 – Adobe Photoshop CS2

The king, the only one… the most downloaded software of the year: Adobe Photoshop CS2. It is curious that, although is not the latest version of Photoshop, PS CS2 is 3 times more downloaded than any other edition of the program. Probably because it has almost the same functions as CS5 but can be run on any computer with limited resources. Anyway, you can download Adobe Photoshop CS5 if you prefer.
