In the previous post, Windows XP or Windows 7?, We established some basic differences between these two popular operating systems, which we consider essential to choosing between one or the other.Automatic updates
Compatibility of the programs
Windows 7
In Windows 7, the developers of the operating system have worked hard to get an optimal and intelligent update system, capable of renovating the functions of the software in a matter of seconds. The optimization of the platform is constant and it scarcely requires your intervention, given that the results are really positive.
However, sometimes, Windows 7 takes too much of a leading role and updates aspects without the authorization by the user. Fortunately, it is possible to define this freedom of action and reduce the scope of action to your convenience. In this way, you will take control of the aspects that are optimized in the platform and the ones that are not.
Finally, it is worth mentioning that by now (we should not forget that we are talking about the latest version of Windows which still has many areas to be improved), the constant update of the utilities does not generate conflict in its functioning, so it pays-off one of the highest debts that Microsoft had with its users.
Windows XP
Windows XP is a little more precarious operating system as regards automatic updates. Actually, this version was one of the pioneers in this project implemented for the platforms developed by Microsoft.
In “XP” most of the updates are not performed without authorization. Then, users have full control over the utilities that have been improved and the ones that have not. This can be seen as an advantage, as long as users have enough knowledge to perform this whole process manually. However, the ones that are less experienced come across a limitation with this methodology.
Now, we have to admit that performing this action with Windows XP is quite a complicated task due to the following reasons: the installations take too long, the automatic update system is only efficient for certain utilities and the search for most complements has to be performed manually.
Nevertheless, not everything about Windows XP is as bad as it looks like. Every now and then, the developers of this platform offer users the popular Service Pack, which are update tools that work with all the aspects of the computer. Although it may generate compatibility problems, their functioning is very accurate.
Compatibility of the programs
Windows 7
Just like any new operating system, Windows 7 has some problems as regards the compatibility with certain programs. However, in relation with other platforms, the time it has taken to solve them has been very short. Nowadays, the users can enjoy almost all their applications with full normality.
Although there are still various aspects to be solved for the latest version of Windows, mainly as regards entertainment, the applications recently created have been developed to work with Windows 7 perfectly.
Windows XP
Windows XP has been, and will probably keep being for a long time, one of the most used versions of Windows. Therefore, 90% of the applications available on the web run efficiently on this platform.
Differently from other versions of Windows, it supports all kinds of applications: programming, graphic edition, 3D design, platform emulators, all kinds of games, multimedia players and an endless list of utilities.
For years, the different kinds programs have been created specifically for Windows XP. And at least for a long time, they will still offer the necessary support to work on this platform perfectly.
